Prabowo Welcomes Macron: A Red, White, and Blue Palace Meeting

Indonesia and France have had diplomatic relations since 1947, spanning over seven decades. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron was warmly welcomed in Jakarta, symbolizing the strong bond of friendship and mutual respect between the two nations. The grand state welcome for President Macron at Merdeka Palace, with the presence of around 3,000 neatly dressed students waving flags of Indonesia and France, created a ceremonial atmosphere. The motorcade carrying President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron, under tight security, proceeded from Monas to the palace.

Upon arriving at Merdeka Palace, President Macron greeted the students and was officially welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto. The two leaders, accompanied by the playing of national anthems and a 21-gun salute, walked to the ceremonial grounds. Macron also inspected the honor guard under the clear blue sky of Jakarta, appreciating the enthusiasm of the students in the palace courtyard. The ceremony was attended by ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, including Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo.

President Macron’s visit to Indonesia also included a visit to the Military Academy in Magelang and a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, highlighting the cultural and educational connections between Indonesia and France. Following the official welcome, President Macron and President Prabowo held a productive closed-door meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, strengthening the ties between the two countries. This visit marks a significant step in the deepening of relations between Indonesia and France.
