President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia made an official visit to Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025, with the aim of strengthening cooperation to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims during their Hajj and Umrah journeys. During the visit, President Prabowo met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah, where he expressed appreciation for the Saudi government’s dedication to facilitating pilgrims from all over the world, including Indonesia.
The discussions between the two leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration in ensuring the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims during their religious activities. They agreed to intensify efforts to improve the quality of services for Indonesian pilgrims in upcoming Hajj seasons, with a shared commitment to providing a seamless pilgrimage experience.
In addition to addressing matters related to the Hajj, strategic agreements were made to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, co-chaired by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and technology. The bilateral trade between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia has been significant, amounting to approximately USD 31.5 billion over the past five years.
Furthermore, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to stimulate private sector investment, totaling around USD 27 billion. These investments are expected to generate employment opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in sectors such as energy, industrial development, and environmentally sustainable technology.
Both leaders also highlighted the importance of collaboration in the health sector, particularly in meeting the medical needs of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. They discussed ways to improve the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries and enhance the capacity of the health workforce.
On the international front, President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated their commitment to supporting peaceful conflict resolutions in the region. They both endorsed a two-state solution for Palestine and emphasized the role of international humanitarian organizations in promoting peace and stability.
The visit showcased the deepening partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia across various sectors, demonstrating their joint efforts to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims and strengthen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
