President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, celebrated the successful completion of negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and the European Union. This milestone agreement is seen as a significant achievement that will enable Indonesian products and commodities to have broader access to the EU market.
During his meeting with European Council President António Costa in Brussels on Sunday, Prabowo described the conclusion of the CEPA negotiations as a historic day after a decade of sometimes challenging discussions. The CEPA represents a free trade agreement between Indonesia and the EU, with Prabowo noting that all previous trade disagreements have been addressed and resolved.
Indonesia is looking forward to increased European involvement in its economy, as well as further engagement with the EU economy. Prabowo highlighted the mutually beneficial nature of the partnership, where the EU brings expertise in science, technology, finance, and management, while Indonesia provides essential resources and strategic agricultural commodities.
Expressing gratitude for the EU’s commitment to global peace and stability, Prabowo emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation in a multipolar world. The CEPA agreement is expected to lay a new foundation for stronger economic, trade, and investment ties between Indonesia and the EU, marking a new strategic phase in their bilateral relations.
