President Prabowo Vows Action Against Rogue Rice Millers

President Prabowo Subianto issued a strong warning to rice milling businesses involved in unfair pricing practices detrimental to farmers and the public. He affirmed the government’s readiness to take control of such “rogue” operations and transfer them to Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives. The President highlighted his commitment to Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, focusing on Indonesia’s economic foundation and the people’s welfare. Consultations with the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court were conducted to ensure a clear understanding of Article 33 Paragraph (2), which mandates state control over vital sectors impacting the livelihoods of citizens. During the inauguration of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative in Bentangan Village, Klaten, President Prabowo reiterated the significance of the rice milling sector and its crucial role in the nation’s economy. Reports indicated substantial profits of up to IDR 2 trillion per month for certain rice millers during harvest seasons, prompting regulatory interventions to safeguard farmers’ trading conditions. President Prabowo also addressed the issue of counterfeit “premium” rice, condemning it as a criminal offense. Instructions were given to the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police to conduct thorough investigations. Concerns were raised about annual losses of IDR 100 trillion due to fraudulent activities by a small number of business entities, prompting a swift response from the government. President Prabowo denounced such practices as acts of betrayal against the nation, emphasizing the importance of strong legal action to combat economic injustices. This commitment to upholding the Constitution and enforcing the law underscores the government’s determination to protect the interests of the Indonesian people.
